UnStill'd Show

This is what I'm doing in my space in the upcoming UnStill'd Show on Feb. 5th-March 5th:
I am making a mini-universe for others to experience- reminiscent of the universe I constantly occupy with my assorted eyesight conditions. The main force of this installation is a sense of off-kilter, pseudo-mystical visual experience. I have been creating 3-D canvases which tangibly illustrate my alternative way of seeing. Mini-lighting techniques, pieces of previous photographs along with current ones, light filters, liquid, and mirrors are spaced out in the "depth-box," as I am referring to my deep canvases.
My vision is that some of my depth-boxes will be open in the back to show video art or perhaps a live-feed hidden camera placed somewhere mysterious in the house.
An audio loop of accordion and vocal sound will be playing. The walls will be covered with shiny black plastic, and the ceiling will be covered with shiny silver plastic, inducing a sense of "fun-hose" otherworldliness.

An amazing write-up of the UnStill'd Show

Click here for the full text at the Schmutz Company blog
Things are heating up and there ain’t nobody hibernating this winter at the Schmutz Lodge. As the Distillery 4 artists wrap up their installations things are starting to look really cool and a bit messy. Messy is alright though because the show is going to be amazing. Over the next two weeks the mess will give way to a collection of amazing art from some truly talented folks.

Feb 5th – the lodge will be transformed by these 8 amazing artists. You’d never know that at one time their residency was nearly taken from them when the Brew House closed........

Site-specific installations and photography

Unstill’d
Curated by Rose Clancy
February 5, 2010-March 5, 2010

PITTSBURGH, PA: The Distillery 4 Program, in collaboration with the Schmutz Lodge, presents the work of eight artists, uniting to overcome the loss of their residency studio. Work will be on display at the Schmutz Lodge, located at 5405 Broad Street in Garfield.

Six months to distill together in a studio space that once housed a brewery, is what the eight participants of The Brew House’s Distillery Program received when they were awarded a spot in the residency program; a studio space is what they lost when The Brew House did not receive the expected funding for the Distillery Program’s fourth season. A strong desire among these artists to remain together as a group, coupled with the determination of the program’s three mentors, Rose Clancy, Rob Katkowski and Brett Douglas Davis, led to the development of the Unstill’d Project.

Unstill’d is a month-long project in which the artists were given a space and asked to respond to their current dislocation. The Schmutz Lodge, a performance and visual arts spectacle, opened their doors to the Distillery Program, and their building has served as both studio and exhibition space for the Distillery artists. Unstill’d includes site-specific installations and is curated by Distillery alumnus, Rose Clancy.

“Unstill’d is the culmination of the Distillery artists’ response to their 30 day residency at The Schmutz Lodge, and it is the first achievement on our list of goals for the ongoing Distillery Program. Our next goal is to secure another short-term residency and exhibition opportunity, and we hope that the Pittsburgh community can help us with this,” said Clancy.
